I recently retired from a career of nearly 40 years in healthcare and cardiovascular medicine, with most of that time spent as an administrator. I began taking photographs more than 25 years ago. Photography has provided me a tremendously creative outlet from the rigors of the medical world.
Art and music have always been an important part of my life. Where I live, in the Yakima Valley, I am pleased to also be involved with the Yakima Symphony Orchestra and am a member of the Yakima Symphony Chorus.
When I moved to Selah, Washington, ten years ago, I was fascinated by the expansiveness and the quality of the light in the Yakima Valley. The sunsets from my porch can be spectacular and I never tire of them.
My favorite compositions are landscapes, architecture, wildlife and other cultures. I seldom travel without my camera because I know an amazing photographic opportunity can present itself at any time. Proof for me was on a trip to Portland when I was able to spontaneously photograph a family of wild horses roaming the Yakama Nation reservation.
Traveling to national parks, national monuments and around the Western United States, specifically for photography, presents spectacular opportunities… and results. My travels include Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks in Wyoming; Joshua Tree, Yosemite, Redwood, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia National Parks in California; Olympic, Mt. Rainier, and North Cascades National Parks in Washington; Crater Lake in Oregon; Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota; Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and Colorado Monument in Colorado; Tall Grass Prairie Monument, Kansas; and Arches and Canyonlands National Parks in Utah. We are so privileged to have these parks for all of us to enjoy.
I have also traveled to many different countries and appreciate the additional opportunities to photograph animals, architecture and other cultures. These countries (so far) include Ecuador, Portugal, Austria, Scotland, England, Czech Republic, Hungary, Iceland, France, Spain, Switzerland, South Africa, Madagascar, Mexico, Australia and the South Pacific Islands.
